Room 102 - Apples\/Apples River<\/strong><\/p>\n

Considered as the fruit of sin, the Apples from Colares used to fell into the river, nearly covering its entire surface, becoming known as the Apples river, and so did the beach where it used to flow.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>

Room 103 - Sintra\u2019s Casino<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Casino of Sintra was inaugurated in the 1920\u2019s, as a leisure and cultural center. Despite it has shut the doors for gambling, the building remained with its original aptitude. Currently, it houses the Cultural Center Olga Cadaval and temporary exhibitions.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>

Room 107 - Garden of Eden<\/strong><\/p>\n

Sintra is a land of opulent orchards and fertile soils, praised by the Muslim geographer Al Bakri (in the 11th<\/sup> century). The garden of Monserrate is a beautiful example of this richness with over 3000 exotic species.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>

Room 108 - Colares Legend<\/strong><\/p>\n

According to the legend, the Countess of Compa escaped with her three children from Denmark after the King had killed her husband. When she arrived in Sintra, her 3 sons fell in love with the Moor Zeil\u00e3o\u2019s three nieces, and offered as dowry three gold necklaces. Thus, the town is known as Colares (= necklaces).<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>

Room 202 - Azenhas do Mar<\/strong><\/p>\n

Its name comes from the ancient watermills that used to exist on the site. It became a seaside resort when, between 1930 and 1955, was settled the connection to Sintra by tram (which currently only reaches Praia das Ma\u00e7\u00e3s).<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>

The Colares wine was the first Portuguese table wine produced since the middle Ages. It was the wine that could be found in the Portuguese caravels during the Discoveries of the 15th<\/sup> and 16th<\/sup> centuries.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>

Over the 15th<\/sup> and 16th<\/sup> centuries, the Portuguese launched into the Discoveries by sea and Sintra was taken as a reference point for sailors and navigators, meaning that they were coming home.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>
